Virgin Atlantic has announced a recruitment drive for 500 cabin crew, as statistics show unemployment rising to 2.67million.

The Office of National Statistics released new figures which saw unemployment rise by 48,000 in the last three months of 2011.

Virgin says it is expanding its network and fleet, advertising jobs throughout the year on www.virginatlantic.com

The jobs will be based out of London Heathrow and Gatwick airports and new recruits will be taking to the skies on Virgin Atlantic’s new routes of Cancun and Vancouver plus other destinations on the airline’s long-haul network including New York, Barbados, Las Vegas and Shanghai.

Corneel Koster, director of operations, safety and security for Virgin Atlantic, said: "It is an exciting year of growth and investment for Virgin Atlantic as we look forward to expanding our network and welcoming a new fleet of aircraft."
