Virgin Blue mid air drama
Several passengers on a Virgin Blue flight into Brisbane late last night were taken to hospital after the pilot was forced to make a rapid descent. An airline spokesman says the pilot of the Boeing 737 made a precautionary descent from 34,000 to 10,000 feet when an outer windscreen cracked.
Ambulance crews treated 11 of the passengers on the aircraft as soon as it landed. Eight were then taken to the Princess Alexandra and Royal Brisbane Hospitals after suffering ear and headaches and bleeding noses.
Ambulance supervisor Roy Wallace says it was an unusual occurrence.
“I mean it does happen with aircraft, but I don’t think we’ve had too many in Brisbane,” he said.
“They’re all in treatable conditions, there won’t be any major problems with them.
“We did have the potential for 100 patients, but we only transported eight in the end.”
