Virtual hotel opens doors to showcase sustainability
Visit IHG Innovation hotel for a sustainable virtual experience
Says IHG: "Consumer research confirms that most of our customers want to make choices that are better for the environment and for communities. This makes us even more determined to find innovative ways to act responsibly throughout our brands and services."
The Innovation Hotel is an online example of what future hotels might look like if they used green technologies. IHG created it so that guests can tell them what they like and share their ideas It also provides a place to set out IHG latest thinking. The site is used to consider these ideas and evolve a way to design, build and operate more responsible hotels.
It also feeds into the ongoing development of the IHG Green Engage programme. giving online guests and members of the public a chance to contribute ideas to the site.
IHG is also working to make the Innovation Hotel more interactive and later in the year the company will regularly publish visitors’ top ideas and latest comments. IHG will look to test more ideas through Green Engage and use feedback from visitors to inform current and new product and service development.
The Innovation Hotel is more interactive than before; guests and the public can explore the hotel, room by room, and leave comments on each idea. The comments can then be shared through Facebook or Twitter.
Ideas contributed by guests, the public and colleagues could then inform the way we design, build and operate more responsible hotels through Green Engage. The site also includes real-life case studies that show how IHG hotels are already using sustainable ideas as well as a refreshed design.
Innovation Hotel has won a number of awards since it was launched in 2008:
- 2009 CSR Innovation Award from Hotel Magazine
- Worldwide Hospitality Awards for best initiative in sustainable development 2009
- Hotel Report Awards ‘Innovator Award in CSR’ – 2008
