One of the world’s most visited and awe-inspiring monuments is about to come to Sydney, with an exhibition that brings the spirit of the Eiffel Tower alive on our southern shores.

The famous tourist attraction celebrates its 120th anniversary in 2009 and to mark the occasion, Vittoria Coffee, the Société d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (Eiffel Tower management body) and Maison de la France bring an exhibition of photography, art and memorabilia to the attraction’s Australian fans.

The exhibition opens at the Sofitel Wentworth in Sydney’s CBD on November 15 and runs until December 15. The event will be promoted in Sydney with 2000 cinema advertisements and more than 50 billboards in the month leading up to the opening.

The Australian public will no doubt be thrilled to see their favourite international landmark on display. More than 200,000 Australians visit Paris and climb the famous tower each year. After all, Paris has been Australians’ third-favourite destination for three years running now!

The Eiffel Tower, designed by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 World Fair, became the tallest building in the world, after taking more than two years to build. At 324 metres tall and weighing 10,100 tonnes, it caused untold controversy when it was built but has gone on to become one of the world’s most revered and visited tourist attractions.

The exhibition takes us on a journey through time via exquisite still photography and ornate advertising posters that date from the tower’s construction through to its evolution as a modern 21st Century icon.

The stunning display brings forth the emotive response this famous icon has evoked in people around the world during a lifetime that spans three centuries.
