WAYN introduces carbon offsetting scheme

Monday, 07 Dec, 2007 0

Social networking website WAYN.com is enabling members to calculate and offset their carbon emissions before they fly.

The initiative has been introduced in conjunction with CarbonFootprint.com and will be up and running in the next couple of weeks.

Funds raised are to go towards carbon reduction projects around the world including a native tree re-planting project in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley in Kenya.

WAYN will also channel 5% of member offsets to a fund for specific regeneration projects.

According to figures from WAYN a return trip from London to Sydney could be made carbon neutral for a payment of £28.31 while a return to Paris would cost £2 per passenger to offset.

WAYN has calculated that if 1% of UK members offset their flights it would mean about 2,000 trees to a Kenyan rainforest.
