Welcome to Al Maktoum International Airport
DUBAI – The first runway at Dubai World Central International Airport (JXB) – set to be the world’s largest airport – has been completed on time in the projected 600 days – an aviation record for the fastest A380 enabled 4.5 kilometre CAT III runway construction.
Built by the UAE’s Al Naboodah Contracting for US$272.5 million, the runway is the first tender to be fully executed within Dubai World Central at Jebel Ali – the huge 140 square kilometre urban aviation community, which is centred on JXB. ??And last week Dubai World Central International Airport was officially renamed Al Maktoum International Airport.
JXB’s first passenger terminal, catering to low-cost, regional and charter airlines, is 40 percent complete.
“The first terminal will cater to seven million passengers annually and will take pressure off Dubai International Airport (DXB) in terms of flights over the next three to four years,” said Khalifa Al Zaffin, executive chairman, Dubai World Central.
“The two mega terminals and the six concourses designed to handle in excess of 120 million passengers annually is currently in the design stage by a team of international architects and technical consultants,” Al Zaffin said.
