WestJet system outage snarls flights across Canada
WestJet Airlines’ schedules were disrupted across Canada Thursday morning due to a system outage.
It caused travel snarl-ups at Calgary, Toronto and elsewhere, leading to long lines and flight delays.
The airline said check-in services nationwide have been restored, buts is still experiencing issues with self-serve baggage drop in Calgary, Ottawa, Saskatoon and Halifax airports.
The system outage impacted WestJet Airlines and air traffic control operator NAV Canada
“Nav Canada is actively engaging to ensure every effort is being made to restore the service as soon as possible,” NAV Canada spokesman Brian Boudreau said.
“Ensuring the safe movement of air traffic in Canadian airspace is Nav Canada’s top priority.”
WestJet spokesperson Morgan Bell said travellers are still encouraged to check their flight status before leaving for the airport and arrive with plenty of time to spare.
WestJet further tweeted that it is still ‘intermittently impacting operations.’
It was affecting check-in, flight planning and payments on westjet.com
“We will continue to provide updates and appreciate our guests patience and understanding. Guests impacted will be reaccommodated.”
