In Brooklyn, Prospect Park hosts its annual Earth Day Weekend, April 21 and 22, with activities including tours with Audubon naturalists, community gardening, live music and more. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket and bring the family to Central Park for a family-friendly Earth Day Celebration on April 22. Or groom your green thumb at the NYC GROWS Garden Festival on April 28 in Union Square Park South Plaza, where kid-friendly activities and gardening demonstrations will enhance your environmental awareness. 

Celebrate the cultural and artistic richness of Manhattan’s Upper West Side during Upper West Fest. Enjoy more than 50 exciting events sponsored by 20 cultural and arts organizations from April 28 to May 20. Get your musical kick from the New York Pops, with two performances this month at Carnegie Hall. Synching symphonic instruments with recognizable pop tunes, the New York Pops will celebrate their 24th birthday with a special gala and performance on April 30.

A Year of Magical Thinking, now showing at the Booth Theatre. Legendary musical producers Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg unveil their latest collaboration, The Pirate Queen, on April 5 at the Hilton Theatre. Jeff Daniels takes a turn in the United States premiere of Blackbird, beginning April 10, while Brian Dennehy and Christopher Plummer star in Inherit the Wind at the Lyceum Theatre, starting April 12.

Restaurants
Taste all the city has to offer with the newest crop of restaurants to hit the scene. In Midtown, Anthos, which means “blossoming” in Greek, made its spring debut with a menu inspired by fresh flavors from the Mediterranean. Landmarc, the Tribeca mainstay, opens in the Time Warner Center in mid-April, seamlessly blending industrial and natural designs to create a warm and inviting bistro. On April 16, more than 40 restaurants will come together at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to offer samplings of their best dishes and drinks.

Shopping
This month, accessories abound with sales and new stores throughout the city. Billion Dollar Babes, America’s premier sample sale, returns to The Altman Building April 27 through 29 with more than 40 designer labels including Alice Roi, Cynthia Rowley and Sass & Bide. Giorgio Fedon 1919, the prestigious Italian shop that offers modern, elegant handbags and other luxurious leather goods with a minimalist design opened its only United States location in Rockefeller Center.
