When Chicago came to Manchester…

Monday, 08 Jun, 2010 0

Chicago and Illinois Tourist Office is to promote the destination in Manchester this June by offering random free cab rides through the city and the chance to visit the destination.

A fleet of ten marked taxis will roam the city centre until June 25 waiting to be flagged down and on Fridays customers have a one in ten chance of hailing the cab that offers free travel.

Once inside the cabs, travellers will be able to enter a competition to win a trip to Chicago and Illinois and to travel along the legendary Route 66.

To enter the draw they must correctly answer a question about Chicago before June 26, details of which will be posted on the seatbacks of the taxis.

State travel director Jan Kostner said: "The Chicago-branded taxis highlight our diverse offerings that will excite and entertain all visitors.

"As well as an award winning culinary scene, stunning architecture, and prominent shopping districts, we are also host to beautiful beaches, colourful Blues bars, real American sports and legendary Route 66.

"We thought it was time to give Mancunian’s a taste of this – on us.  Through the free rides and complimentary trip, we will show people why Illinois is the ideal holiday destination.”
