Wintry weather and a coating of fresh snow

Monday, 28 Jul, 2008 0

After a memorable week of ideal snow conditions and frequent sub zero  overnight temperatures the snow conditions at Falls Creek are about to get even better, with a very cold southerly airmass to result in snow to fall as low as a 1,000 metres.

This cold snap will enhance the alpine resort¹s snow-covered slopes for skiers and boarders as the 2008 season reaches the mid-winter milestone.

Cross country skiers (skaters and classical) are relishing the 47km of groomed trails which weave in and out of Falls Creek Alpine Resort .

There are 2km of tracks purposely set for skaters in Boomerang heading up Rocky Knolls.

There are also ideal snow conditions for the popular guided snowmobile  tours, the annual Five Day Mim Sodergren Women’s Ski Program (which  starts today) and the annual Falls Freeheel Festival this weekend, August 2 -3.

This is the most exciting period of the winter, the snow is superb and there are numerous spectator-friendly events taking place.

A high-energy, Night Show in the Village Bowl each Thursday (weather permitting) is offered free of charge to the resort’s guests throughout August.

Telemark enthusiasts (and anyone wishing to learn) will be seen in reasonable numbers at the annual Falls Freeheel Festival August 2 -3.

Telemark skiing brings style, finesse and flair to skiing.  With both the elegance of tradition and excitement of progression,  freeheel skiing is the “oldest new sport”. It is a great weekend and we welcome anyone who wants to give it a try.

Qualified instructors will be available on Saturday and Sunday at 1.30pm for lessons at $35 dollars per person and Steve “Crazy” Leeder, a telemark legend, will run freeheel camps in the terrain park. So if  you are up for something new, stylish, progressive and fun, give the Falls freeheel festival a run!
