Wizz Air eyes Middle East, Asia expansion
Low-cost airline Wizz Air is mulling nonstop flights from the UK to the Middle East and Asia.
It has tentative plans for long haul expansion, Marion Geoffroy, Managing Director of Wizz Air UK said.
Destinations could include the United Arab Emirates, Israel and Saudi Arabia, Geoffroy told the Financial Times.
It would deploy longer-range single-aisle A321XLR planes, although the range won’t reach Southeast Asia.
However longer routes are possible with a stop in the UAE via its joint venture Wizz Air Abu Dhabi.
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi flies to the Maldives.
“The macroeconomic environment forces everyone to be very rational about capacity,” Geoffroy said, adding it won’t enter the ultra-competitive transatlantic market.
Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air is drawing up plans for flights from the UK to the Middle East and Asia as part of an ambitious expansion into the long-haul market.
The A321XLR can fly for up to 11 hours.
