Wizz Air promises lower fares after ordering more aircraft
Wizz Air has confirmed it is to buy 146 more Airbus aircraft to further expand its fleet.
It said the list price for the order of the A320neo Family aircraft was more than $17.2 billion but admitted that Airbus had granted ‘significant’ discounts.
The deal requires shareholder approval, which will be sought at a general meeting in due course.
Wizz Air has an outstanding commitment to purchase a further 135 aircraft from Airbus, comprising 8 A320ceo aircraft and 17 A321ceo aircraft and 110 A321neo.
The new agreement is for the purchase of 72 Airbus A320neos and 74 Airbus A321neos for delivery between 2021.
"These aircraft will enable Wizz Air to renew its existing fleet and provide additional capacity for further growth. Airbus’ A320neo Family aircraft provide additional efficiencies that will enable Wizz Air to offer even lower fares to the market and will ensure Wizz Air maintains its young, efficient, industry leading fleet," it said in a statement.
