Woman seriously injured after fall from Trafalgar Square lion sculpture
An air ambulance landed in Trafalgar Square on Saturday to treat a woman for head injuries after she fell 11ft from one of the landmark bronze lion sculptures.
Tourists watched as the helicopter landed metres from Nelson’s Column and medics spent 30 minutes treating the woman, believed to be in her 20s, before taking her to the Royal London Hospital.
The lions in Trafalgar Square are a popular spot for tourists’ photos although in past years, the Greater London Authority has called for people to be banned from climbing on the lion statues, to protect them from being damaged.
But English Heritage is against a ban on climbing the 148-year-old lions and said it would prove ‘deeply unpopular’, reports the Daily Mail.
