Work begins on third Hong Kong Disneyland hotel
Work has begun on a third resort hotel for Hong Kong Disneyland, which will add an extra 75% to the resort’s hotel room supply.
The 750-key property will be named Disney Explorers Lodge and is set to open in early 2017.
Features include four separate gardens – African, Asian, Polynesian and South American – based on indigenous art and culture, themed restaurants and a swimming pool.
There is strong demand for a third resort hotel as the two existing hotels have enjoyed steady occupancy rates of over 90%, said Bill Ernest, president, Asia, for Walt Disney Parks & Resorts.
"This expansion is key to continuing the resort’s growth and momentum, and it underscores The Walt Disney Company’s commitment to Hong Kong. This project, along with other upcoming expansion projects and new offerings, will continue to add to the appeal of Hong Kong Disneyland."
Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, Hong Kong Financial Secretary John C Tsang said the development is just one of many major hotel projects in the pipeline, and expects Hong Kong’s room supply to reach 84,000 rooms within the next two years.
