World Travel Market 2003 Destination Korea Press Release – Stand AS4100

Friday, 17 Oct, 2003 0

Annyeong-haseyo, (Hello)

Korea has come on leaps and bounds since co-hosting the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea & Japan. Stand AS4100 is where we are situated and this year we have more than doubled our space since 2002. This is a clear indication of our growing confidence in the Korean tourism industry. To compliment this, our stand has been designed and built in Korea specifically for WTM 2003.

Our relationship with Japan and other North East Asian neighbours is strengthening day-by-day, as we see combining our strengths as a positive way forward. During WTM 2003 Korea & Japan will be standing side by side, with stands next to each other, to promote our region.

On a separate stand (AS4140), The Korean Traditional Food Tourism Association, will be inviting visitors of WTM 2003, to sample Korean cuisine on their stand. This is a wonderful opportunity to tantalize the taste buds with such famous dishes as ‘Kimchi’. A warm welcome is extended to all.

Korea is a unique destination and our focus this year is on ‘cultural niche marketing’, through programmes that encapsulate Korean tourism, such as Taekwondo and Templestay experiences. In fact, the Korea National Tourism Organization (KNTO) is arranging a central stage performance to showcase the amazing martial art of ‘Taekwondo’. The display will be performed on Tuesday 11th November at 12:30pm.

Korea has invested heavily in their convention facilities and major events past, present and futures are being attracted to our destination to cater for their every need. In fact ‘The Pacific Asia Tourism Association’ (PATA) is hosting its annual conference on the beautiful Island of Jeju-do in 2004. To mark this occasion KNTO is hosting a cocktail reception for PATA members by invitation only on Tuesday 11th November at 3pm.

Finally, we are proud to welcome Mr. K. S. Kwon, Director General, Tourism Bureau – Ministry of Culture & Tourism, along with a large delegation of Korean trade industry personnel who will be available for meetings throughout the week on stand AS4100.

Gamsa-hamnida! (Thank you)
