World’s largest cruiseliner preps for maiden voyage
The world’s largest cruise ship has arrived in the Caribbean ahead of its long awaited maiden voyage.
Icon of the Seas is in the Port of Ponce, Puerto Rico for final preparations before launching at PortMiami later this month.
The 250,000-ton ship will undergo final technical tests and regulatory inspections.
It will arrive in Miami later this week for an ICON Arrival Party and sail two short preview cruises.
Before the maiden voyage in late January Icon’s naming ceremony will be attended by the Icon of the Icon of the Seas – AKA ship godfather, soccer legend Lionel Messi.
The ship spans 20 decks and can accommodation over 7,000 guests.
It has six pools, several waterslides and is divided into different themed ‘neighborhoods.’
“We are positioning it as the ultimate family vacation, and when you look at all the energy and time that has gone into creating this ship it is mind-blowing,” CEO Michael Bayley said.
