Would-be terrorist has reasons for selecting Detroit
With one quarter of its own residents fleeing Detroit, “it might seem like the would-be underwear bomber could have picked a more devastating US target than “Motor City,” noted Newswer.
“But as the AP has learned, airplane tickets to considered destinations Chicago or Houston were just too darn expensive,” the site said.
Underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab plunked down a more modest US$2,831 on a round-trip to Detroit.
The AP concluded that “al-Qaida’s Yemen branch does not share Osama bin Laden’s desire to attack symbolic targets, preferring instead to strike at targets of opportunity.”
