WTM: What did you think?

Sunday, 29 Nov, 2002 0

WTM organisers are deeming the event a success at its new location in ExCel.

This year’s event attracted 6.8 percent more visitors and 8.6 percent more participants than last year during the first three days. Organisers believe the national firemen’s strike, which led to the closure of some Underground Stations on the final day, may have put people off. Hence, visitor numbers on the final day were just 0.7 percent up on last year.

Group exhibition director, Fiona Jeffery, said a number of developments taking place at ExCel would benefit WTM participants and visitors next year.

Firstly, five hotels will have been completed by WTM 2003, offering more onsite accommodation. Secondly, Ms Jeffery predicted that there would be a greater presence of boats moored beside ExCel – either rivercruisers for transport to Central London or floating hotels.
