Marriott International is set to acquire urban lifestyle hotel brand citizenM. The two parties have inked a deal worth about $355 million. Marriott is buying the citizenM brand and its related intellectual property. The brand has 36 hotels in over various cities worldwide including London, Paris and Rome. US locations include Austin, Boston and Chicago. There are three current projects under construction which are expected to launch by the middle of next year. Marriott aims to expand the brand to new markets over time. The acquisition will see a shift to long-term franchise agreements managed by Marriott International. “Marriott has a proven track record of growing acquired brands significantly by leveraging our global development ecosystem and the power of our award-winning Marriott Bonvoy loyalty platform,” said CEO, Anthony Capuano.

  Marriott International, Inc. today announced plans to double the portfolio of its affordable midscale brand, Four Points Flex by Sheraton, across Europe by the end of 2026. With plans to reach over 50 open properties in the region within the next two years, Four Points Flex by Sheraton currently represents the company’s fastest growing brand in Europe.   Marriott launched Four Points Flex by Sheraton in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region in September 2023, in response to travellers seeking value-driven accommodations without compromising on quality and service. With record annual signings in EMEA, the company achieved over 7% net rooms growth for the region

  Marriott International, Inc. (Nasdaq: MAR) announced another year of strong growth across Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) with a record-breaking number of annual signings of 291 deals representing over 34,000 rooms in 2024.  The company added over 180 properties to its operating portfolio in EMEA last year, expanding its product offerings in the region across travel purposes and segments – from affordable midscale to luxury, as well as entering three new markets – Luxembourg, Angola and Senegal.   “We celebrated exceptional growth across the EMEA region in 2024 with a record-breaking number of deal signings, growth across all segments and entry into emerging markets – further enhancing our portfolio and bringing even more unique travel experiences to the region,” said Satya Anand, President, Europe Middle East & Africa, Marriott International. “We remain focused on connecting people through the power of travel and look forward to building on this growth momentum to offer our owners, Marriott Bonvoy members and customers even greater options to extend their horizons.”   Following the record year of deal signings in the region, the company’s total pipeline for EMEA grew to 596 properties at year-end, representing 104,731 rooms (a 10% increase from the previous year).  Conversions drove growth across segments and markets in EMEA, representing 45% of the region’s rooms signings in the year. • In the premium segment, Autograph Collection, Tribute Portfolio and Marriott Hotels signed a combined 50 deals in the region in the past year.
• Courtyard by Marriott, Four Points by Sheraton and Moxy Hotels spearheaded the company’s growth in the select service segment with 39 deal signings in EMEA in 2024.
• Marriott continues to see momentum in the branded residential segment across EMEA with 11 project signings across the region in 2024, bringing its total EMEA residential portfolio to 72 locations at year-end (42 projects in the pipeline and 30 open locations).

  In 2024, Marriott also added 181 properties and nearly 20,000 rooms to its operating portfolio in EMEA. Openings highlights included:  

• Ritz-Carlton Reserve made its highly anticipated debut in the EMEA region with the opening of Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in the Red Sea, Saudi Arabia.

Marriott International has teamed up with Cathay Membership loyalty program, offering reciprocal perks to their respective members. They will gain access to both programs’ benefits through limited status match offer, and accelerated points earning. The strengthened partnership provides Marriott International with access to Cathay’s extensive membership base. There are 11 million Cathay members globally who can stay at nearly 8,800 Marriott Bonvoy hotels and resorts. Together, Marriott Bonvoy and Cathay loyalty program members can avail perks like hotel stay redemptions, two-way points transfer, and upgraded flight and travel package experiences. “We are committed to curating the best experiences to connect our members through the power of travel,” said Alison Yang, Marriott VP, Revenue Strategy, Loyalty & Partnerships, Distribution, Greater China. New reciprocal benefits of the partnership include a two-way points conversion between Marriott Bonvoy Points and Asia Miles. It calculates as 3 Marriott Bonvoy points to 1 Asia Mile, and 2 Asia Miles become 1 Marriott Bonvoy point. Marriott Bonvoy members can transfer their Points to Miles to redeem flight tickets and more. There is an opportunity to status match Marriott Bonvoy and Cathay membership tiers and accelerate access to more exclusive benefits. Marriott Bonvoy Platinum/Titanium/Ambassador Elite members will be matched to the Cathay Silver membership tier, subject to a limited quota. Cathay Silver/Gold/Diamond members can enjoy equivalent Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status. “Strengthening our partnership with Marriott allows Cathay members to unlock benefits even when they’re not flying.   W All-Inclusive Punta Cana, Dominican Republic is slated to open in late 2024. The launch is expected to mark the debut of W Hotels both in the Dominican Republic and in the all-inclusive space - a brand known for its modern, bold luxury service with a vibrant ambiance. Situated on the picturesque shores of Uvero Alto, this adults-only, all-inclusive, new-build resort is anticipated to feature 349 guestrooms with balconies and plunge pools, as well as several suites. Plans for the resort include a spa with 11 treatment rooms, three dazzling pools with pool bars, 11 dining and drinking destinations, and immersive, dynamic adults-focused programming.

  All-Inclusive by Marriott Bonvoy is also set to introduce new properties in 2025. Adding two Mexico-based properties to the portfolio, new-builds JW Marriott All-Inclusive Costa Mujeres and W All-Inclusive Costa Mujeres, both will be situated in sunny Costa Mujeres located in the Cancun area. The brand also recently announced two additional new build properties to open in Brazil’s Maricá region. Located in Rio de Janeiro, a new destination for the brand, the two hotels will be a JW Marriott All-Inclusive, which will expand the portfolio’s all-inclusive luxury offerings within South America, as well as a themed hotel inspired by the country’s most popular music festival, the Rock in Rio, joining as a part of the Autograph Collection.   EXCITING RENOVATIONS AND RE-OPENINGS    Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort, Mexico will re-open as an all-inclusive in spring 2024, becoming the first Marriott branded all-inclusive resort in the world.   The iconic, award-winning hotel, previously named Marriott Cancun, has been Marriott International’s legacy property in the Yucatan Peninsula for several decades. The re-opening will unveil redesigned rooms and suites as well as a core facilities make-over, expansive pools and aquatic attractions, innovative restaurant concepts and nightlife experiences.   The resort will also be the first to launch CAMP Club, a new partnership between Marriott Bonvoy and CAMP, the experts in family experiences, set to roll out across the rest of the portfolio after a successful pilot program in 2022.
