The 50/50 joint venture increases Hyatt’s all-inclusive portfolio. The agreement brings 22 resorts totaling approximately 12,000 rooms, including 21 resorts under the Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts brand located across the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica, and Spain. It also paves the way for the Cayo Levantado Resort in the Dominican Republic to join Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection. Grupo Piñero is the owner of the resorts managed by the joint venture. The JV will provide expanded opportunities for growth with travelers in the Americas and other key markets. Bahia Principe’s CEO Julio Pérez assumes leadership of the joint venture, with Grupo Piñero’s current Global Chief Executive Officer Encarna Piñero serving as Chairman of the Board. Izet Mahalbasic, VP, Hotel Finance for Hyatt, will join the joint venture as Chief Financial Officer. “This joint venture enhances Hyatt’s all-inclusive platform across multiple dimensions: more rooms, an expanded portfolio and more offerings on more stay occasions for guests and World of Hyatt members,” said Mark Hoplamazian, CEO, Hyatt. “Grupo Piñero has built an exceptional family legacy over the past 50 years, and together we look forward to driving sustainable growth.” This transaction builds on Hyatt’s growth journey in all-inclusive, which started with the creation of the Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara brands in 2013. The acquisition includes a residential segment business with Standard Residences under development in Miami, Lisbon, Phuket, Hua Hin, Mexico City and Tulum as well as completed Bunkhouse Residences at Hotel Saint Cecilia in Austin, TX. The acquisition includes more than 30 future projects with a signed agreement or letter of intent. The lifestyle group will manage all key functions like design, marketing, PR, restaurants, nightlife and entertainment while leveraging Hyatt’s operational and loyalty infrastructure. The new lifestyle group will include the Standard International team as well as Hyatt colleagues. The acquired portfolio will be 100 percent asset-light and includes management, franchise and license contracts for 21 open hotels. It comprises 2,000 rooms, including The Standard, London, The Standard, High Line in NYC, and The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon. Maison Métier (formerly Maison de la Luz) and The Barnett (formerly Ace Hotel New Orleans) have joined the Hyatt portfolio as affiliated hotels. The hotels are expected to join Hyatt's Independent Collection of brands and the World of Hyatt loyalty program this year. Both properties are owned by The Domain Companies and managed by HRI Hospitality. "This brand expansion in New Orleans market underscores Hyatt's aim to grow in destinations that matter most to Hyatt guests," said Mike Waddell, SVP, global franchise operations. "Maison Métier and The Barnett highlight New Orleans' vibrant culture." The two New Orleans hotels are located just one block from Lafayette Square. Maison Métier will join The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand this year. It is housed in a 1908 building, and is a Parisian style luxury guesthouse with thoughtfully preserved architecture. It offers 67 guestrooms and suites and a salon-style bar. The Barnett will join JdV by Hyatt brand in 2024. This New Orleans hotel features Art Deco and French Modernism influences and features a live music venue. It houses restaurants, a rooftop and pool bar.
