Business agent in company travel warning

Saturday, 14 Dec, 2005 0

The boss of a leading travel management company has warned firms they are risking prosecution by failing to know the whereabouts of staff when travelling on business.

Portman Travel managing director Graham Flack said by failing to keep tabs on workers, they may be flouting duty of care legislation.

The warning came after Portman signed a deal with Galileo to enhance its real time travel data, enabling the travel management company to track who is travelling where and when.

The system will complement Portman’s existing 24-hour alert service, the company said.

“A technology solution which enhances our ability to pinpoint the location of client personnel at any given time is critical,” said Flack.

He said keeping tabs in staff is becoming increasingly difficult as more business people use the Internet to book their travel, sometimes in contravention of company policy.
