100 days to Commonwealth Games
With just 100 days to go until the 2006 Commonwealth Games, there are still plenty of rooms available at great prices at a range of Accor hotels across Melbourne.
Accor, the official hotel group for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, is Melbourne’s largest hotel operator with 17 hotels and over 3000 rooms in the city and its surrounds, with rooms starting from as little as $89 per night at Formule 1 Fawkner and Formule 1 Dandenong or from $99 at Formule 1 Melbourne Airport.
More than 60,000 tickets have been sold for the Games to date and with excitement building for what promises to be one of the biggest sporting and cultural events ever held in Australia, now is the time to secure your booking.
Accor recently announced the addition of Docklands Serviced Apartments – Grand Mercure to its network, and the one, two and three bedroom apartments are ideal for stays over the Commonwealth Games. The Docklands area is sure to be one of the city’s most vibrant precincts during Games time, with a range of live events on throughout the 12-day festival. In addition, athletics events are planned for Docklands. The serviced apartments all feature kitchen and living areas and private balconies with spectacular views over the city and the harbour. They are just a short walk from Telstra Dome, Spencer St Station, Melbourne Exhibition Centre and Federation Square, meaning you have easy access to the best Games events.
Rates for the Docklands Serviced Apartments during the Games period start from $400 per night.
“Many people seem to think that Melbourne is already fully booked for the Commonwealth Games or that rooms will be too expensive to afford, but neither of these points are correct,” said Ray Stone, Accor’s Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing. “As the chief accommodation sponsor of the Commonwealth Games, we have worked with the organisers to ensure a wide range of accommodation styles are available during the Games at reasonable prices.
“With 100 days to go it is now the perfect time to secure room bookings for events during the Games. This is the largest sporting event in Melbourne since the Olympics of 1956, and with Melbourne’s renowned ability to host major sporting events, it is guaranteed to be one of the most popular fortnights in the 2006 calendar, both on and off the sporting fields.”
Throughout the Commonwealth Games period a three-night minimum stay condition will apply. The Games will be held throughout Melbourne from 15-26 March 2006.
