£6,000 for 30 years of Butlins’ holidays

Butlins is to develop luxury timeshare apartments at its site in Minehead, Somerset.

Prices start at £6,000 to purchase 30 years of holidays based a family taking a week in May annually.

The company, which attracts 1.3 million holidaymakers a year, has teamed up with timeshare exchange giant RCI to enable guests to choose from thousands of other luxury timeshare developments all over the world.

The scheme works through a points system. Owners purchase a number of points which they trade each year against breaks at the Butlins apartments or can use to book similar accommodation in other countries.

Work starts in August to create the “most stylish” one- and two-bedroomed apartments ever offered by the company for timeshare users from next March. A second phase in 2007 will include a health and fitness area.

The scheme – BlueSkies by Butlins – will feature 24 of what the company describes as spacious, modern holiday apartments set apart from the main resort, featuring contemporary design features. BlueSkies guests will be offered their own concierge service and dedicated support team, free wireless internet access, free DVD rental and three different pre-arrival ‘fridge menu’ options.

Butlins’ Mike Crowther, who is leading the BlueSkies development, said: “Second homes and holiday apartments are an unattainable dream for many people as they can be expensive to buy, maintain and manage. By introducing BlueSkies in our 70th anniversary year, we’re aiming to create a development that is luxurious, flexible, great value and guarantees a first rate family holiday.”
