Accor aims for 200 hotels in Indonesia by 2020

Accor plans to have 200 hotels up and running in Indonesia within the next five years.

AccorHotels recently opened its 100th property, Novotel Makassar Grand Shayla City Center, in South Sulawesi and has set a 2020 target to double its inventory in what it calls its biggest hotel network market in Southeast Asia.

"We have been operating in Indonesia for over 20 years and will continue to contribute to the country’s tourism and hospitality industries," said Garth Simmons, AccorHotels chief operating officer for Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.

"Our development strategy includes becoming a hospitality industry player that has the largest number of human resources of almost 12,000 employees. We are currently looking for 7,000 new employees in the next five years," said Simmons.

Upcoming new openings include two Sofitel and five Pullman properties and it has earmarked development opportunities in secondary cities and lesser known tourist destinations such as Samarinda, Pangkalan Bun and Palangkaraya in Kalimantan, and Pekalongan Cirebon and Gresik in Java.

Indonesia is expected to receive close to 10 million foreign arrivals by the end of 2015 but has set an ambitious target of doubling that by 2019.
