Airbus drops lithium-ion battery for new aircraft
After safety issues were found with the lithium-ion batteries in use in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Airbus has decided to abandon its plans to use similar batteries in its new A350 aircraft.
Airbus announced on Thursday that it would revert to using a nickel-cadmium battery for the flight. The aircraft, a wide-body long range jet, debuts next year.
"Airbus considers this to be the most appropriate way forward in the interest of program execution and A350 XWB reliability," spokeswoman Mary Anne Greczyn said.
