Airbus ends year on a high
Aircraft manufacturer Airbus has secured almost £45 billion ($60 billion) of orders for its most popular jets following the launch of a sale last month.
New deals include 50 A320neo jets worth $5.4 billion bought by China Aircraft Leasing Group Holdings, the purchase of another 50 by Dutch leasing firm AerCap and the sale of 430 A320neos and larger A321neso to no-frills carrier Indigo Partners.
Wizz Air, which operates flights from the UK to mostly central and eastern European destinations, confirmed today that Airbus had granted it ‘significant’ discounts from list prices for 146 aircraft, which would be worth $17.2billion without the discounts.
So far, Airbus has received 14,000 orders for the A320 and the aircraft manufacturer is planning to increase its production rate to 60 a month by 2019.
However, there are fears over the future of its double-decker A380 as Airbus has not received any new orders for the superjumbo in two years.
Emirates was expected to announce an order for 36 more A380s at the Dubai airshow in November, according to the Telegraph, but announced an order for 40 Boeing 787s instead.
