Amadeus claims budget airline booking advantage

Tuesday, 11 Nov, 2008 0

Booking low cost airlines through Amadeus is 63% faster than using airline or third party websites, according to new research commissioned by the GDS provider.

Research company UPS Professional Services gave travel consultants a series of different booking scenarios where they were asked to book a low cost carrier, change the booking, add a hotel booking and also add a car rental booking.

Amadeus says agents making these bookings on the GDS rather than online were 63% faster than those screenscraping, could modify a booking in 1.62 minutes as opposed to 5.37 minutes online and could create more hotel and car rental bookings almost 80% faster than on an airline website and 53% faster than through screen scraping.

The GDS provider believes the reason booking through its product Amadeus Ticketless Access is faster is that it offers a single booking environment with standardized commands for booking processes. It also allows agents to book budget airlines just like a full service carrier with no need to search through pull-down menus.
