Amadeus sees online air bookings soar
Amadeus saw bookings rise more than 9% in the second quarter as online air sales continued to soar.
Total bookings in the three months to June 30 hit 125 million with revenue growing 22.3% to £438 million. Net income rose almost 42% to £55 million.
“In travel distribution we consolidated our global leadership position with our market share in travel agency air bookings rising to 29.24%,” said president and chief executive Jose Antonio Tazon. Its previous share stood at 28.64%.
He said air sales through online channels once again showed strong year on year growth of 42.2% – reaching 15 million – and now represents 14% of total air bookings.
Cruise bookings meanwhile grew 51.2%.
Tazon said Opodo continued its evolution as a leading European online player by becoming the market leader in France following the acquisition of Vivacances. It also launched in Spain.
“Opodo is on course to deliver gross sales in the order of one billion euros this year,” said Tazon.
Overall, Amadeus has reported total bookings for the six months to June 30 rise by 4.8% to 250 million with revenue up 16.2% to £848 million and net income rising 22.4% to £106 million.
