American Airlines to ditch some New York flights this summer
Faced with FAA staff shortages across the New York area, American Airlines said it will cut some New York flights this summer.
American will downsize its schedules between NY LaGuardia Airport and Dallas, Miami, Kansas City and St. Louis.
It is also cutting flights between Newark Liberty and Chicago.
It joins Delta Air Lines and United Airlines which said they would cut about 10% of New York flights.
The FAA says staffing is under pressure in the New York area for air traffic controllers.
It wants to ease the already congested airspace.
It asked airlines to slash flights and deploy larger aircraft to minimize disruption.
Meanwhile, JetBlue says it ‘began reviewing options for reducing flights at JFK and LaGuardia,.
Air travelers are set to face another tough summer with possible disruptions.
“it is disappointing to reduce flights for customers as they plan their summer vacation.”
The FAA said staffing at the New York Terminal Radar Approach Control remains well below requirements.
