Annual music festival in WA
A blend of opera and classical music will be enchanting audiences in Western Australia’s Margaret River this winter at a vintage annual event inspired by a London Philharmonics Orchestra tour in 1985.
The Leeuwin Concert Series, at the Leeuwin Estate Winery, began when the winery played host to the Orchestra during their Australian tour, launching what has become a WA institution running for the 22nd consecutive year.
Leonie Groves, Tourism Western Australia’s market development manager for the UK and Europe, said: “This event has become a staple part of WA’s social calendar and offers UK tourists the chance to join in an event which has a strong connection with British music.
“Margaret River is a popular destination for UK holidaymakers, especially at that time of year, and this concert adds to the appeal of an area boasting some of the world’s best beaches, outdoor activities and cultural experiences.”
The alfresco concerts are set in the picturesque grounds of the estate and recognise the winery’s ongoing association and sponsorship of the Arts.
This year’s event is due to be held on the weekend of 25-26 February and will feature performances from the likes of Amici Forever whose unique mix of classical music, opera and pop has helped them sell more than one million albums worldwide.
Flautist Jane Rutter is also back by popular demand after her 2000 Leeuwin debut, with additional appearances from the John Butler Trio.
