ASP World Longboard Championships to make waves in Hainan
The best longboarders on the planet will once again head to Hainan Island, China for the ASP World Longboard Championships from December 5-12.
The event is being sponsored by extreme sports camera maker GoPro.
"The ASP World Longboard Championship is hands down one of the most important professional longboarding events of the year, making it a natural fit for GoPro to sign on as this year’s title sponsor," said Todd Ballard, GoPro’s Director of Global Sports Marketing.
An agreement has also been reached to keep the event in China for the next three years, giving the event some much needed stability and in turn further boosting awareness of Hainan surfing.
"The ASP is grateful for the support from GoPro, the surfers and the people of Wanning, Hainan," said Dane Jordan, ASP Australasia general manager.
"The locals and the government have been so welcoming to the world’s best longboarders and we’re all excited to be going back next month."
Both the men’s and women’s competition will be hotly contested at Riyue Bay, off Hainan Island.
