ATC employee suspended after Mumbai runway near miss
The India air regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation has suspended an air traffic control officer at Mumbai Airport after a close call between two jets on the same runway.
The DGCA has opened a full investigation.
An arriving IndiGo flight was landing as an Air India flight was accelerating on the runway for takeoff.
The Air plane was able to take off in time unaware the Indigo flight was coming in to land.
The incident only came to light after a video of the incident was posted online.
It is thought the two planes were ‘only seconds apart.’
IndiGo said ‘Flight 6E 6053 from Indore was given landing clearance by ATC at Mumbai Airport.’
“We have reported the incident as per procedure,” an IndiGo spokesperson said.
