Australia upgrades UK travel advice over ‘terrorism threat’
Australia has ramped up its travel advisory for the United Kingdom, warning Aussies of the ‘threat of terrorism.’
The SmartTraveller website advises Aussies to ‘exercise a high degree of caution in the UK’.
It increased the warning level from green to yellow, asking travellers to ‘exercise a high degree of caution’
“International terrorists have staged attacks in the UK,” SmartTraveller says.
“The UK Government’s terrorism threat level is substantial.”
“Islamic extremism, extreme right-wing ideology and the status of Northern Ireland contribute to the threat.”
Australia’s Level 3 orange warning advises Australians to ‘reconsider’ travel, and level 4 (red) warns them not travel to the region.
“At level 2, there are more or higher risks than what you would typically find in a large Australian city,” SmartTraveller advice says.
“This level may also reflect a passing event, such as political unrest or a short-term increase in a location’s domestic terrorism level.”
Other countries at yellow include Greece, France and the US.
