Avalanche warnings in Alps following death of skier in Bavaria

An avalanche warning has been issued in the Alps following the death of a skier in Bavaria.

The 20-year-old woman died buried under snow on Mount Teisen in Bavaria, near the Austrian border, on Saturday.

She was with five companions, who all escaped unhurt.

The accident happened after heavy snowfall has blanketed parts of southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland in recent days, causing travel chaos in some regions.

More is expected in the coming days and some roads and rail lines have closed because of the avalanche threat, while airports and train services have been affected.

Munich Airport cancelled 120 flights while Innsbruck airport said ‘current weather conditions have caused major restrictions in air traffic’ and urged travellers to check their flight before leaving.
