BA to go ahead with Heathrow changes
British Airways ready to go ahead with controversial clocking-on system after talks with unions break down
Unions have threatened new strike action after British Airways insisted that it will introduce a controversial swipe card system for workers, which has already lead to travel chaos for thousands.
According to a report on the BBC website, talks aimed at resolving the problem broke down late last night and the carrier is planning to go ahead with its “automated time recording system”. Now the GMB union says its members could be balloted over official strike action, and there are still fears that more unofficial “wildcat” strikes could be on the way.
Mervyn Walker, British Airways director for Heathrow, told the BBC that the company would still press ahead with the implementation of the swipe card on Wednesday, but said it would be making time to “reassure” workers on any concerns about the change.
