Baby dies after getting trapped in baggage conveyor belt
An investigation has begun at Alicante Airport after the tragic death of a five-month-old boy who became trapped in a luggage conveyor carousel.
The child’s American mother had arrived on a late easyJet flight from London and had placed the child inside a baby carrier on a stationary belt for heavy luggage.
It is believed the belt had been activated by the weight, setting it in motion and the infant was carried to the drop zone, where the bags come out, becoming tangled and trapped in the rollers.
Paramedics tried to save the baby’s life but he was declared dead at the scene.
Spanish police are investigating by studying at CCTV footage but said "it seems that it was an accident".
According to reports in the Daily Mail, the boy’s Canadian father had been waiting for the family in the arrivals zone and they were on their way to nearby Denia for a holiday.
