Backpackers opt for ‘word of mouth’ reviews
Backpackers are ignoring online reviews preferring word-of-mouth recommendations.
Research of more than 1,000 youths by the TNT Travel Show found that most 18-35 year olds don’t use smart phones to research while travelling with a high percentage of Blackberry and iPhone users leaving their handsets at home.
73% preferred to speak to other travellers while 14% opted for social media to research hotels and flights. Reading blogs for tips was picked by 13% of youths.
Email was picked as the ‘best techology for keeping in touch with friends and family’ while abroad, with 29% of the vote. Facebook scored 22%, SMS 16%, Skype 15%, mobile phone 12% and Twitter and traditional mail both 1 per cent.
The research was carried out ahead of the TNT Travel Show in Earls Court on 3 March.
