Barrhead travel predicts today will be busiest for bookings
Barrhead Travel has predicted today will be the busiest booking day of 2013 due to the weather and a long-awaited pay day.
The travel agency chain said it expects to see thousands of holidaymakers booking summer getaways.
Sharon Munro, chief executive at Barrhead Travel, said: "Our research indicates Monday, 28 January, will be the biggest day for UK holiday bookings this year.
"For many people it has been a tough few weeks following their annual overindulgence and overspend at Christmas. With budgets tight in January, due to early pay days before the festive break, people want something to look forward to.
"The influx of snow and freezing temperatures over the past few weeks has certainly helped lift sales already but with pay day approaching for many families, Monday spells the long awaited day to treat themselves by putting down a deposit on a summer getaway."
Barrhead have put together their own prediction of what the top holiday destinations will be this summer:
1. Mainland Spain
2. USA
3. Balearic Islands
4. Canary Islands
5. Turkey
Sharon added: "New direct flight routes from UK regional airports also open up easier access to exotic holiday hotspots around the globe. We’re seeing destinations like Sri Lanka, Dubai and the USA proving increasing popular as travellers look to put their own stamp on their holiday."
