West Midlands Police were alerted and responded to a report of the ‘suspicious vehicle’ at the airport.
As a ‘precautionary measure’ passengers and workers were evacuated and flights were grounded.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team screened the vehicle which it eventually deemed to be safe.
“The safety of all was our primary concern and as a precautionary measure the airport was partially evacuated so the vehicle could be searched and assessed,” the police force said.
The airport has resumed normal business with minimal disruption.”
“We would like to thank the public for their patience and support.”
A Birmingham Airport spokesperson said departing flights were grounded for a few hours,
Once the all-clear was given flight operations resumed and slowly began returning to normal late on Wednesday.
All flight operations are scheduled to operate as normal this morning.
