Bomb attack prompts new Foreign Office warning

Tuesday, 04 Mar, 2014 0

Visitors to Bahrain have been warned to be even more vigilant following a fatal bomb attack on a main highway yesterday.

Three policemen were killed in the explosion, which happened on the Budaiya Highway, near Al Daih, to the west of the capital.

A post on Twitter said police had been dispersing rioters at the time of the attack.

The Foreign Office said: "Demonstrations, protests and disruption are expected to continue.

"These activities may include attempts to disrupt traffic, protests in villages and near economic centres, the burning of tyres, the throwing of Molotov cocktails, and the possible use of improvised explosive devices.

"As a result there could be clashes between government security forces and protesters.

"Following the discovery by the Bahraini authorities at the end of December of large caches of explosives and weapons you should be even more vigilant at this time."

The overall level of advice for travel to Bahrain has remained unchanged and there have been no direct threats or attacks on UK citizens.
