Brazil visa requirement reintroduced for Americans

Brazil tourist visas will once again be required for Americans traveling there.
It is bringing back the requirement for tourist visas for Americans as well as those from Australia, Canada, and Japan.
It takes effect on October 1.
Former President Jair Bolsonaro made a unilateral decision to drop the need for a Brazil visa for Americans in 2019.
This was despite Brazilians still needing one to visit the US.
All four countries still require visas for Brazil nationals.
While announcing the decision, Brazil’s foreign ministry said it is happy to discuss reciprocal visa waiver agreements with the four countries.
“Brazil does not grant unilateral exemption from visiting visas, without reciprocity,” it said.
Local tourism leaders in Rio called it a ‘setback’ for tourism.
