Brazilian tourism says Zika cancellations have been ‘isolated’
The Brazilian Tourist Board has said cancellations have been ‘isolated’ as a result of the Zika outbreak and, on the whole, related to pregnant women.
Embratur – the tourist board – is working with operators, agents and partners to reassure travellers that there are no restrictions on travel to Brazil apart from recommendations for pregnant women to postpone their trips.
Through its 13 Brazilian Tourism Offices, it has been monitoring cases of cancellations or delays to trips to Brazil.
Embratur has issued an official statement to the trade with information on the virus and practical recommendations for travellers.
The mosquito-born virus is relatively harmless to adults, but has been linked to brain and development abnormalities in unborn children.
"We wish to help travellers feel secure about the choice of coming to Brazil, whose diversity attracts millions of foreigners every year. Brazilian and foreign tourists should take simple measures to avoid contact with the mosquito", said the President of Embratur, Vinícius Lummertz.
