Brit missing after Thailand kayaking accident
A search is ongoing for a British man reported missing after a kayak accident.
Scuba divers have been scoring the waters of a reservoir in Surat Thani province, Thailand.
Shanghaman Gowribalan, 24, fell into the water at the deepest part of the reservoir, which is 160 feet deep.
His friend was able to row back to shore to seek help.
Police and rescue teams have been using sonar and divers to locate him.
Local park director Worapote Lomlim says the two kayakers may have violated the rules.
He says they didn’t register before going on the water and so weren’t supplied with life jackets.
“No registration was found. We believe the two tourists left early in the morning without wearing life jackets.”
“Therefore, the head of the Khao Sok National Park will be investigating the facts.”
