British police sent to patrol Magaluf capture killer
Two British police officers sent to patrol the party resort of Magaluf over the summer have captured a killer on the run from an open prison in Derbyshire.
Ashley Carlton James, 30, was caught on Saturday hiding in the town following a two-month investigation by British and Spanish police.
Officers were originally called to an incident of domestic violence but the two West Midlands officers who were patrolling Magaluf arrived at the scene to find James had already fled.
His alleged victim decided against pressing charges but the officers eventually tracked him down to an address in the minicpality of Calvia, said the Daily Mail.
He is being held in a prison close to Madrid following an extradition hearing. The newspaper said it wasn’t clear if he had agreed to be extradited or not.
James was jailed for 10 years for manslaughter in July 2008 after taking part in the stabbing of student Uriel Johnson Bilston, West Midlands, in 2007, together with his cousin Errol Price, who was also jailed.
Spanish Civil Guard said he was arrested following cooperation between the Spanish police and PC Martina Anderson and Sgt Brett Williams, who spent a week in Magaluf in mid-August before flying to San Antonio in Ibiza for a second week’s work.
