Brittany Ferries adds Portugal to 2014 brochures
Brittany Ferries has added Portugal to its holiday brochures for the first time.
The ferry company and tour operator is offering chalet campsites in Figuiera da Foz, Leiria, Viana Do Castelo, Viana do Castelo and Vila Nova de Cerveira and hotels in Aveiro, Bragan-§a, Estremoz, Evora, Fafe, Lisbon, Portalegre, Porto, Set-ºbal, Tomar, Viana do Castelo, and Viseu.
A spokesman said it had decided to introduce Portugal based on the growing popularity of its crossings to Spain in the last five years.
"We feel that holidaymakers are increasingly seeking the benefits of taking their own car with them when they tour the Iberian Peninsula," he said.
"We’ve moved from two direct return UK-Spain sailings a week to five, operating from Portsmouth and Plymouth to Santander and Bilbao."
Brittany Ferries has also gradually increased the spread of holiday destinations from northern Spain, to include more central and southern regions such as Castilla y Leon, Catalu-±a, Extremadura, and Navarra.
"The take-up has been good, and passenger numbers on the Spanish routes are flourishing. Our figures show that 9% of these passengers were driving onwards to Portugal, and we’re confident we can further build on this by establishing a range of ferry-inclusive holidays there," said the spokesman.
