BSI acquires hotel booking agency
Corporate hotel and conference management organisation BSI has acquired hotel booking agency International Reservations.
The Nottingham-based agency has been acquired for an undisclosed sum in a deal supported by the Royal Bank of Scotland.
International Reservations offers both event management and bookings management for accommodation and conferences. Typically serving smaller clients than BSI, the acquisition underlines BSI’s continued commitment to the SME market, helping smaller companies to cut hotel expenditure.
International Reservations’ founder and managing director Lynne Marshall will remain with the company as a consultant. International Reservations will continue to trade under its current name until further notice. The company will operate as usual, with its full team of staff, and using its own technology but it will operate a 24/7 service and offer the BSI Direct online booking tool.
Marshall said: “Eighteen years after starting the company, it was an extremely difficult decision to sell the business.
“I was determined to sell to the right company, and BSI was at the top of my list. BSI’s profile and ethical working culture is very similar to that of International Reservations, and I’m confident that the staff and business as a whole will complement its structure.
“However, this is by no means my swansong. I’ll retain involvement with the company in my role as a consultant, so I’ll still be very busy and very visible for the foreseeable future.”
BSI group managing director Charles Cockell said: “This is an important step for BSI as we continue to grow, and firmly establishes our offer to smaller companies in particular.
“International Reservations is a strong business, and with the buying power of BSI and additional services for clients such as our BSI Direct online booking tool, the company has real potential to expand.
“As the industry continues to consolidate, BSI is strongly establishing itself as one of the major players in the business travel world. Through this acquisition and our own organic development, BSI is in a very positive position to continue growth.”
