Business travellers highlight pet hates

Forget the image of business travellers jumping into cabs to get to their next appointment, most prefer to walk to meetings and many like to take public transport when possible.

A new survey by the Global Business Travel Associate found that 52% of business travellers book hotels close to their meeting so they can walk and 45% try to use public transport to travel around cities.

The survey of 675 business travellers in Europe, sponsored by AirPlus International, found that safety was their top priority, with 76% saying it was important to feel theiremployers took their security seriously.

Three-quarters said it was important to stay in touch with friends and family when travelling, 65% felt maintaining a healthy diet while on the road was a concern, but only 46% said sticking to their exercise routines when travelling on business was a priority.

The majority – 85% – said they enjoyed business travel but air travel delays and cancellations, long airport layovers, connecting flights and travelling at anti-social hours including weekends were listed as pet hates.

"This study highlights the importance of creating a travel policy that takes into account not just the cost of travel, but travel’s impact on employees," said Michiel Verhaagen, executive vice president sales EMEA AirPlus International.
