Capita wins £3.5m-worth of Home Office travel business
Capita Business Travel – formerly Lonsdale Travel – has won an account from the Home Office to provide air, Eurostar and ferry travel for its employees.
The agreement, for which the value of travel spend is expected to be worth up to £3.5 million a year, was awarded following a competitive pitch process.
The pitch was carried out via the OGC Buying Solutions Travel framework. As a result three organisations have been appointed to provide a variety of travel services.
Capita will introduce an online air travel booking service to Home Office employees alongside traditional phone-based bookings.
Home Office travel manager Bob Boxer said: “Many of our employees are required to travel for research purposes and liaison visits.
“The new online booking tool will provide an alternative and convenient method of booking travel to all Home Office employees.
“Used in conjunction with a phone booking service, the new Capita Business Travel management system will allow the department to further enhance its methods of tracking how and where its budget is spent and assist in the delivery of spend reduction by at least 25% over the next financial year and beyond.”
Capital managing director Simone Buckley said: “We believe that booking online can form part of a cost-effective solution for an organisation’s business travel and are seeing a definite shift in this direction.
“In the UK, industry figures suggest a take-up of 15% and we expect this to increase significantly. However, introducing online bookings to any customer must take into account its organisational culture in order to deliver convenience for employees using the online tool and financial savings against the travel budget. We look forward to working closely with the Home Office.”
