Carnival Cruise Lines is to operate its largest mega ship from the UK next summer.

The 112,000-ton superliner Carnival Splendor is to run five departures from Dover from July 13 next year with fares starting at £799 in a mini brochure due out this month.

The US line’s 3,006-passenger vessel will offer 12-night Northern Europe itineraries with calls in Copenhagen, Warnmunde (for Berlin), Helsinki, overnight in St Petersburg. Tallinn and Amsterdam.

The ship will then sail on a 12-night Western Europe cruise from Dover to Civitavecchia, the port for Rome, on September 11 next year.

Carnival Splendor will offer the largest spa on any Carnival ship at almost 18,000 square feet and a 5,500 square foot children’s area.

There will be four swimming pools, a ceremonial tea house, sports deck, and a reservations-only supper club.

Sixty per cent of the new ship’s 1,503 cabins will have an ocean view, with more than half of those having balconies.

Carnival Cruise Lines UK & Ireland sales and marketing director Lynn Narraway said: “Carnival is showing a huge commitment to the UK market by bringing our largest ever ship to Britain to cruise a programme of ex-UK itineraries – treble the size of the ex-UK programme we initiated with Carnival Legend in 2002.”
