Catalunya imposes curfew as masks mandatory outdoors across Spain
Curfew in Catalunya is now in force and Spain has make mask-wearing outdoors mandatory again.
The northeastern region imposed 1:00 am curfew, closure of nightlife, and strict limits on gatherings.
There are restrictions on dining in restaurants and cinemas have a 50% capacity limit.
It came into force after approval from the High Court of Justice this week.
It became the first region to reinstate a nightly curfew.
"The curbs will last at least 15 days.
"Omicron has changed the panorama. We must reintroduce measures which we don’t like but which are necessary," the head of the regional government, Pere Aragones, said.
Omicron now accounts for about half of total Covid infections.
The region has a population of around 7.7 million people.
Spain reinstated mask wearing outdoors from today, which will be a temporary measure, says Health Minister Carolina Darias said.
